Biography

Williwaw belongs to the Sail Training Association of Belgium (S.T.A.B.), having been entrusted to them from the city of Antwerp in 1998. S.T.A.B. completed a total restoration of Williwaw using volunteers and help from the National Maritime Museum.

Onboard Williwaw, a world traveller Willy de Roos first circumnavigated the American continent from east to west, sailing via the northwest passage in Greenland and the Bering Strait, reaching the west coast of North America before sailing onto Antartica in 1979.

Williwaw is used for sail training young people and is a floating ambassador for the National Maritime Museum in Antwerp. In winter she is moored at the museum dock and in summer sails with young people onboard.

She is a regular participant in the Tall Ships Races.
