Biography

Sister-ships Ocean Scout and Offshore Scout are purpose built, well equipped, Oyster 49 ketches. They operate from the east coast UK port of Ipswich, sailing weekend or longer cruises with crews of up to 11 young people from all backgrounds.

Adventures Offshore is a charitable trust and has been offering safe sail training since 1964. We are an RYA recognised training establishment and offer DofE Gold Residential Voyages.

Reasons To Sail

Young people sailing with Adventures Offshore will have a safe, fun and exciting introduction to offshore sailing. Groups of up to 11 young people experience life afloat, sleeping in cabins together and developing friendships through the teamwork of sailing the boat to new destinations. There is also time for visits to shore attractions or beach games when in harbour. Our boats are purpose-built Oyster 49s, offering sleeping in bunks over two cabins and a spacious, light and airy saloon area for eating, chatting and playing games. Both of our boats are staffed with fully commercially qualified skippers and mates, and sometimes also with a trainee mate. All our staff are DBS checked and hold safeguarding qualifications. We aim to ensure that every voyage with us is fun and adventurous whilst ensuring the complete safety of the individuals on board.

Sail Training Programme

Under close supervision from our fully qualified sea staff, crew members take an active part in all activities on board from hoisting and setting the sails to steering, and preparing and cooking meals for all on board. We run a watch system, so young people are divided into two teams who alternate between sailing the boat and preparing meals, and enjoying free time to socialise with new friends. We aim to ensure that everyone has experienced night sailing, even on a weekend voyage. Adventures Offshore is an RYA Recognised Training Establishment and we offer RYA Start Yachting and RYA Competent Crew awards on most voyages, and by arrangement we can sometimes offer RYA Day Skipper training. Our longer-distance trips are great for people who wish to gain sea-miles towards higher yachting qualifications. We are able to offer adventurous week-long residential trips away from our home base, weekend trips from our base in Ipswich on the east coast of England, and day sails on the River Orwell in Suffolk. Whilst catering mainly for the 10-25 year old age range, we do also offer sail training trips for adults. Past cruises have taken us as far afield as Spain, Norway and Russia.
