Merel has been the Dutch Youth Representative in the Sail Training International Youth Council since 2018. She started sailing on board Tall Ships when she was 20 years old and loved it from the first moment she set sail; a great way to spend time off from her work as a nurse! In The Netherlands, Merel is a board member of the National Youth Sail Training Organisation, which organises different sailing activities throughout the year. She believes that sail training is a great contribution to international friendships, self development and a boost for your self esteem.
