Race report 11: It’s turning into a small ships race

July 14, 2013

Despite the light winds, today has seen another two of the international fleet cross the official finish line, in readiness for the exciting port festivities in Helsinki, Finland.

Because of the very unusual weather conditions of light and head winds over the last 12 hours more modern rigged craft have benefitted and their time correction factors (handicaps) have worked in their favour.  Class C vessel Sharki (Poland) is still provisionally leading overall and the next day will see a further stream of finishers.

The first race leg of The Tall Ships Races 2013 has made for some exciting close finishes as the vessels make their way from Waypoint 3 at the top of Estonia to the finish near Tallinn.

The leading Class A Tre Kronor of Stockholm (Sweden) is in thirteenth position overall, Statsraad Lehmkuhl (Norway) has managed to keep ahead of Christian Radich (Norway) and overtake Mir (Russia), on corrected time.

The Correct Time placings at 16:00 UTC today were:

Class A

1              Tre Kronor af Stockholm (Sweden)

2              Statsraad Lehmkuhl (Norway)

3              Christian Radich (Norway)

Class B

1              Morning Star of Revelation (UK)

2              Maybe (UK)

3              Rupel (Belgium)

Class C

1                Sharki (Poland)

2                Ebb Tide (Netherlands)

3                St Iv (Estonia)

Class D

1              Akela (Russia)

2              Tomidi (Belgium)

3             Theia (Finland)

Please note that these are provisional results and they are likely to change.
