Esbjerg, Denmark

The international fleet visited Esbjerg in 1993, 2001 and 2014 – and most recently the city hosted for a fourth time during the Tall Ships Races 2018.

The Races have been an overwhelming success on each occasion, and the port and the city were both swept up in the excitement. In 2018, Esbjerg celebrated the 150th anniversary of the port and there were spectacular celebrations to mark this milestone.

The port is known as the “lifeblood of the city,” and both share the fundamental values of the Tall Ships Races and Sail Training International. Our main goal is for everyone – young and old, novices and enthusiasts ­– to experience this spectacular event close up.

Mayor Johnny Søtrup had this to say before the event took place:

“On behalf of all of Esbjerg, we are beyond thrilled to be welcoming The Tall Ships Races once again in 2018. We are proud to be a host city and we can’t imagine a better way to celebrate the 150th anniversary of our port. Being selected again lets us know that the crews on the ships felt at home during their last stay in Esbjerg. Our last event was spectacular and very popular with our citizens and the many thousands of visitors who travelled here to experience the impressive ships. We cannot wait to repeat the success!”
