Biography
he Training Ship “Cuauhtémoc” (BE-01) was acquired by the Secretariat of the Navy – Mexican Navy with the purpose of addressing the lack of a unit exclusively dedicated to the comprehensive training of Captains, Officers, Cadets, Petty Officers, and Sailors in the art of sailing, as well as the strengthening of team spirit.
The choice of a vessel with these characteristics stemmed from the conviction that the experiences gained on board this type of ship allow those who step onto its decks to be transformed into true men and women of the sea. This is achieved through the acquisition of knowledge and experience in the art of navigation, traditional seafaring customs, and their direct interaction with the elements and forces of nature that converge during voyages.
The ship’s crew, through their discipline, professionalism, and dedication to service, projects the image of Mexico in the seas and ports of the world, proudly flying the national flag. The Training Ship Cuauhtémoc thus began a voyage that transcends time and borders. More than a training platform, it became a floating ambassador, taking a message of peace, friendship, and goodwill to every port in the world. On its decks, not only is navigation taught: character is forged, discipline is cultivated, and the seafaring spirit that distinguishes the people of the sea is strengthened.
The ARM “Cuauhtémoc” takes immense pride in its enduring history with The Tall Ships Races,where our vessel has proudly represented Mexico on numerous occasions. Over the years, this cherished relationship has been marked by outstanding achievements, including securing second place in 2004 and claiming first-place honors in both 2005 and 2012. Most recently, our crew was deeply honored to be awarded the coveted Friendship Trophy during the 2023 edition of the races. Participating in these magnificent regattas is about much more than competition; it is a celebration of our deep-rooted connection to the global sailing community, and a testament to the maritime excellence and camaraderie that we are incredibly proud to share with the world.
