Biography

Master Frank is the oldest half-deck fishing boat, known as a longliner, on the Isle of Man. She was built between 1893 and 1895 and according to a report in the Ramsey Courieur at her launch, 29 January 1896: ‘She is very strongly built and bids fair to be a good, useful boat.’

At 40 ft. overall, Master Frank was built by Messrs. Clucas and Duggan at Ramsey, Isle of Man, commissioned by Mr W. Shakley, Whitehaven boat owner and fish dealer, naming the boat after his son. Longliners were used to fish for cod, named after the fishing method of using a long line.
