[_sob_reasons_to_sail] => Sailing with us means challenging yourself. We’re all in the same boat, and we share a common
goals, challenges, tasks and responsibilities. Your voyage with Froya will without a doubt be a
unique and memorable experience. Make no mistake: Sailing a gaff rigged schooner is not an
easy task! As part of the crew, you will be involved in all the different aspects of sailing a ship:
Stowage and handling of sails, work in the galley, cleaning the deck, saloon and toilets, keeping
watch, and even steering the vessel itself. In addition, there will be tasks and activities waiting
for you at each of the exciting ports we visit on our journey.
[_sob_sail_training_programme] => Upon arrival you will be given a tour of the ship. You will then be assigned to a watch and a bunk. After this, training commences! You will be provided with a life jacket and survival kit,
which is yours for the duration of the trip. The life jacket is to be worn at all times and safety instructions will be given before we leave the harbor. As soon as we set sail, proper sail training begins, continuing each day and lasting throughout the voyage. After having received
instructions, you will be expected to contribute to the daily proceedings on the ship, by performing the tasks entrusted to you. Daily tasks include steering the ship, hoisting the sails and navigating, cooking, and scrubbing the deck. Sailing is a 24-hour-a-day activity. While some sleep, others work – and vice-versa. You’ll be given a full explanation of the watch- system once aboard. Your voyage fee includes all meals on board.

Biography

Valentine, formerly Froya, was built in 1942 as a fishing vessel which was later motorised. In 1978 she was rebuilt as a sailing vessel using traditional craftmanship and dedication. In the early 1990’s, she was refitted as the fore and aft schooner that she is today.

Valentine is a training vessel for schools, offering chartered events and taking part in classic races and boat shows.
