The 2014 Tall Ships Races and Regattas: by numbers

October 17, 2014

Sail Training International (STI) has put The Tall Ships

Races and Regattas firmly on the global stage as Europe’ largest, free family

festival.

Three very different, but hugely popular sail training events

were organised by the international, not-for-profit charity, STI, this year:

  • The SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta
  • The Tall Ships Races 2014
  • The Falmouth-Royal Greenwich Regatta 2014

These spectacular events in the Black Sea, North Sea and English

trainees and visitors from all over the world.

Six key facts and figures:

Fact 1: Over 9,000 people enjoyed a sail training experience

at an STI event this year.

With the help of permanent crew STI brought the sail

training experience to 9,115 young (and some older) people this year.

    1,280 crew

  • The Tall Ships Races 2014 delivered the sail training

    experience to 6,685 crew

  • The Falmouth-Royal Greenwich Regatta 2014 attracted

    approximately 1,150 crew

Fact 2: We’ve welcomed over four million visitors

The ten ports hosting the three events were visited by approximately

4,382,000 visitors of all ages, from all over the world.

attracted around 1,361,000 visitors in total.

  • The Tall Ships Races 2014 in July and August saw 1,675,000

    people visiting its ports.

  • The Falmouth-Royal Greenwich Regatta 2014 in August and

September attracted 230,000 visitors to Falmouth and 1,116,000 visitors to

    Royal Greenwich.

Fact 3: We’ve seen over 150 registered Tall and Small Ships take

part in the three events

  • The SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta in April and May saw 29

registered vessels visiting Varna in Bulgaria, Novorossiysk and Sochi in Russia

    and Constanta in Romania

  • The Tall Ships Races 2014 saw 78 registered vessels visiting

Harlingen, The Netherlands; Fredrikstad and Bergen in Norway and Esbjerg in

    Denmark.

  • The Falmouth-Royal Greenwich Regatta 2014 in August and

September saw 44 registered vessels in Falmouth and Royal Greenwich.

Fact 4: Over 1,000 international broadcast, print and online

media covered the events

Over a thousand international film crews, radio stations, journalists

and photographers covered the three events on international and national TV and

radio, magazines, newspapers and websites.

Between them they generated over 175,000 different news

articles and stories and thousands of breat
