DelfSail 2021 will be held between 10-13 June 2021 in Delfzijil, The Netherlands. It’s a firm fixture of the Tall Ships calendar that keeps sail training close to its heart…
Taking place every five years, 2021 will mark the seventh time that DelfSail has been held in the northern Delfzijil. Since the first edition of the event back in 1986, DelfSail has enjoyed a warm relationship with Sail Training and The Tall Ships Races, thanks in part to the contributions of Sail Training Association Netherlands.
In 1991, Delfsail was the final Host Port of the Tall Ships Races as they visited the North Sea, and since then the organisers have kept crews and trainees at the forefront of the event. DelfSail 2021 will see this continue as crews are once again cared for with a full weekend programme of sports and entertainment – including intercrew sports, day sailing in local small boats, water sports and traditional ‘Mudsledging’ pictured above – as well as access to a range of museums and cultural sites throughout the city and nearby Appingedam.
With over 500,000 visitors coming to witness the Tall Ships in port in 2016, and up to 900,000 during earlier editions of the festival, Delfsail has grown to be one of the most anticipated maritime celebrations in Europe.
